Library Director
Beekman Library – Dutchess County

The Beekman Library is seeking applicants to serve as its next Library Executive Director. The Library Executive Director serves as the chief administrative officer of the Beekman Library and is responsible for overall leadership, strategic direction, financial management, staff supervision, and community engagement. The Director works closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure the library’s mission is fulfilled and that services meet the evolving needs of the community. The ideal candidate will be a community minded leader who can encourage connection, execute capital projects, and implement a recently completed strategic plan. The Beekman Library is a welcoming community serving residents of Beekman and surrounding areas in Dutchess County. It is committed to lifelong learning, intellectual freedom, and providing inclusive services, programs, and resources that enrich the lives of its patrons. Our library is known for its exceptional programming, friendly knowledgeable staff, and wide selection of materials. It recently completed phase one of an expansion project and looks forward to subsequent expansion.
The Town of Beekman, located in the historic Hudson Valley, is a scenic, rural town in south eastern Dutchess County, known for its rolling hills, open farmland, and quiet residential neighborhoods. The town has a population of approximately 15,000 and is located about 70–80 miles north of New York City. The proximity to New York City in a rural community that offers cultural activities make the Town attractive.
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution
- Possession of a New York State Public Librarian Professional Certificate
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressively responsible library experience or similar supervisory experience
- Strong financial and organizational management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Preferred
- Experience working with a Board of Trustees
- Knowledge of New York State public library systems and funding structures
- Experience in community outreach and programming
- Experience as a Library Director
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience, $70,000 – $85,000 annually (with placement dependent upon experience and qualifications)
